Ceramic Coating Care Guide: Washing, Maintenance and What to Avoid
How to wash and look after a ceramic coated car, how long coatings last, and the habits that keep the protection working for years.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
A professionally applied ceramic coating typically lasts 2 to 5 years, depending on the product used, the condition of the paint beforehand, and how the vehicle is maintained afterwards. Maintenance is what decides whether you get two years or five.
Washing a coated car
Use pH-neutral shampoo, a soft wash mitt and the two-bucket approach where possible. Rinse thoroughly, dry with a clean microfibre towel, and avoid harsh chemicals, traffic film removers used carelessly, and automatic brush washes, which wear coatings down faster than anything else.
Maintenance washes
We recommend a maintenance wash every 3 to 4 months using pH-neutral shampoo. Our ceramic coating package includes a free maintenance wash at 6 months. Regular washing stops dirt bonding to the coating and keeps water behaviour strong.
What coatings cannot do
No coating makes paint scratch-proof or chip-proof. Coatings resist dirt, chemicals and light marking and make washing much easier, but stone chips and deep scratches can still happen. That is worth knowing before you buy, not after.
